Acquired from an altitude of 705km this Landsat 7 ETM+ false colour image of Mount Kenya has been enhanced using the near infrared, short wave infrared and red wavelengths displayed as red, green and blue. The image covers an area 40km x 35km.
Mount Kenya spans the equator, its icy summit coloured in shades of cyan and magenta on the image reaches 5199 metres. The mountain consists of three principle zones, the rocky peak area (green), the alpine zone (orange) with its distinctive giant vegetation; and the vast gentle lower slopes (brown) covered in mountain forest and bamboo jungle.
