Acquired from an altitude of 705km this Landsat 7 ETM+ false colour image over the Barrow in Alaska has been enhanced using the short-wave infrared, near infrared and green wavelengths displayed as red, green and blue. The image covers an area 40km x 35km.
Temperatures in this region rarely rise above freezing and the ellipsoid thaw lakes (blue) scatter the prominent tundra land cover (red on this summer image).
