Antarctic Storm

Acquired from an altitude of 705km this Landsat false colour image of the Ross Ice Sheet in Antarctica has been enhanced using the two short-wave infrared wavelengths and red wavelength displayed as red, green and blue. The image covers an area of 80km x 70km.

The Ross Ice Shelf (blue in the image) is the largest ice shelf in Antarctica; glaciers constantly feed this permanent ice sheet attached to the land. The black area is the surrounding sea; clouds (yellow and white) traverse the Antarctic skies.
